Paradise Moments will get back to you as soon as possible

For millions of years, this lush volcanic island was pristine and isolated in the sea, until a few hundred years ago, when sailors from Arabia, Europe, Africa and Asia came to this island. Many traders, pirates and ships needed supplies for their onward journey, and in the 1700s, some of these travelers settled down on Mauritius.

Now, around 1.2 million inhabitants are on the island. Mauritius' very multicultural  population lives in harmony with each other.
They are very friendly and welcoming, and as a guest, you will soon feel the pride they share in their common and unique heritage. The many sugar cane plantations, orchards and large textile industry have given the island reasonable prosperity and a good infrastructure.

In Mauritius, you have a wide range of activities on land and sea to choose from, and most hotels are very child-friendly with excellent childcare and activities for the little ones.

North, south, east and west? Where is the best place to stay in Mauritius?

On the North Coast, the concentration of hotels is highest around Grand Baie, where you will find a selection of restaurants, cafes, shops and the island's only nightlife. The northwest coastline is rich in small, idyllic lagoons and beautiful coral beaches, as Trou aux Biches, Pointe aux Piment and Pereybére. Especially in the period from May to October, this part of the island is well protected from the southeast wind.

The South Coast is perhaps the most beautiful with mountainous terrain, rivers, forests and rugged coastline mixed with quaint lagoons with pure white beaches and calm waters. The temperatures are a little cooler in this region from May to October, when the southeast wind blows, but good conditions for surfers. Many new hotels have been built in this area in recent years.

Picturesque beaches and crystal clear waters are found on the East Coast. Worth mentioning is the island of Ile aux Cerf and the area around Belle Mare. If you live in the area, a visit to the local and colorful Sunday market in the town of Flacq is recommended. In warmer months, the breeze from the sea can help to cool you down, while from June to October the temperatures can be a little cooler than elsewhere on the island.

The West Coast generally has the hottest weather and less rainfall with a dry climate. The lush mountain peaks form a beautiful backdrop to the white sandy beaches and azure ocean.

Climate and weather in Mauritius

Mauritius has a pleasant subtropical climate and can be visited all year round. When is the best time to travel to Mauritius – the answer will be individually. You can therefore read more about the different seasons of Mauritius below.

October, November and December - The dry season in Mauritius

From October, the days are warm and the temperature is around 28 °C, while the evenings and nights can be chilly. At the same time, it rains only rarely during this period, and there is very little wind. This perfect climate, combined with a water temperature of pleasant 26 °C, making this season a popular time to travel to Mauritius.
In the first three weeks of December the weather is still dry and warm and also a good time to travel to Mauritius.

January, February and March - Summer in Mauritius

In late December the summer begins in Mauritius and it lasts through March. This period is the peak season in Mauritius. The days are warm with temperatures easily reaching 30°C, although the cooler sea breezes make the heat bearable. This season is perfect for you who would like to swim, dive and try different water sports in your holiday, since the water temperature in the lagoon is around pleasant 28°C.

Statistically these are also the months with the most rain. Most of the rain falls in the central part of the island and it will typically come as short, heavy showers late in the day. It is also during this period that tropical storms and cyclones can hit the archipelago, but it happens rarely; in fact, only an average of every 5 years, a cyclone hits the island.

April - Winter is approaching in Mauritius

The month of April is, like November and December, the best time to travel to Mauritius, if you want a little lower daytime temperatures and cooler nights. The weather is dry and the Indian Ocean is still warm; about 26°C. This month is ideal for a family holiday to Mauritius, as both air and water temperature is incredibly comfortable.

May, June, July, August and September - Winter in Mauritius

Winter in Mauritius is not, as most would describe a typical winter. The day temperature is at around 25°C when the sun shines. At night the temperature can drop to 15°C, so if you visit Mauritius during this period, it is a good idea to bring a sweater and long pants, if you are going out for the evening. Winter is also the dry season with less rainfall. Typically, in the form of light scattered showers. It's still a great time to swim in the ocean because the water temperature is around 24°C inside the lagoon.
